How do I get the finances in order to travel to Europe and back? (I'm short on cash but I just want to know how/when I can send away for some cash or travelr's checks.....etc...)
tim, As a previous reply mentioned, this HelpLine is primarily managed by other travellers who share Rick's travel philosophy and methods, as Rick spends a lot of time travelling so doesn't have time to respond to individual posts. As someone else mentioned, I would strongly recommend that you remove your address from your earlier post, in order to avoid internet scam issues. Assuming this isn't a "Troll", I have a few comments on your questions..... None of us here have any knowledge of your financial situation, so it's difficult to provide specific recommendations on how you can get the funds together for a trip to Europe. You might start with a plan to start saving on a regular basis, and also start putting together some details on where you want to go in Europe. It's not a good idea to use Traveller's Cheques! They're not the best way to obtain money in Europe, and you'll likely have considerable difficulty cashing them. ATM's are the preferred and most cost effective method. I usually travel with a small amount of Euro's or other "travel funds" to use until I get settled in Europe. You should be able to obtain those at financial institutions in your area (they may have to order them). Regarding Guidebooks, check your local Library or book stores for copies of Rick's books. The first one to read is Europe Through The Back Door as that will provide you with LOTS of informaton on how to travel well in Europe. Hope this helps. Good luck with your planning!

Tim- this is a chat board. Not a contact with the Rick Steve's staff. Those of us who like to travel and enjoy Rick's philosophy of travel light... etc. are the ones "writing" on this board. I'd suggesst that you start by reading some posts and answers here, get Rick's book "Europe Through the Back Door" ( buy it or check it out from the library) and maybe watch some of his shows. Then get back to us with a your specific quesitons. Also- start saving a few dollars a week ... also- traveler's checks aren't really used much any more. If you are wondering about Euros or other European currency- that's a differet matter- use ATMS-- over there.
I suggest you remove your full name and address from public display.
