You should book your flights as Seattle to Vienna and Paris to Seattle. Don't book this as two one-ways (very expensive), but as an "open jaw" on a single ticket. To do this, use the "multi city" option on Kayak, Expedia, etc. To find train schedules and times (if not prices) between Vienna and Switzerland and Switzerland and Paris, follow this advice: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/db_tips.htm. Of course, you'll need to choose a city in Switzerland in order to do this. If the train times seem too long and you want to investigate flying between cities, look at http://www.skyscanner.com/. But Switzerland has airports in Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Basel, and Lugano. If you're not in or near one of these, the time and hassle you will spend getting to the airport will probably exceed the total time you would have spent on a train. This is particularly true for getting to Paris, since fast trains from Geneva, Basel or Zurich to Paris take about 4 hours.

You don't really have 14 days. If you are leaving Seattle on August 1st you won't arrive in Europe until the 2nd. That day is not going to be jam packed with activities, as once you arrive you must go through immigration and customs. Then you will make your way to your hotel and get settled. Traveling from the West coast you will most likely be jet lagged. You also can't count August 15th, as it will be a travel day only. So what you really have is 3 nights (2 full days) in Vienna, 3 nights in Switzerland (2 full days) and 7 nights in Paris. Where in Switzerland do you want to go? I agree that it is best to fly open jaw into Vienna and home from Paris, or visa versa if that works better for you. Don't waste time and money flying round trip into and out of one city. As far as what to do there, presumably something is already motivating you to choose those destinations. There is no way to answer that without knowing what you like to do. I suggest you read some guidebooks to see what your options are, then come back for more help.

hi, planning a trip is one thing, asking people what to do and see in a place is another. I have no idea on what floats your boat. I can recommend things and people will, but yours and my likes may not be the same. Since you already know WHERE you want to go, you are half way there. The rest is the details. what i would do (not necessarily what others would tho) would be to: > do some homework on whats there to do/see in each city you want to go to. > Make a list and then rank them in some type of order of importance. If you dont have time, something will need to be left out. > With that list, you maybe able to figure out HOW much time you need. > Do that for each place. As far as (afa) flying into/out of any city, here is what i would do. again you know WHERE you want to go so its easier. > Use skyscanner.com or Kayak.com to look at flights as: > Round trip (r/t) to Paris only or whatever city you choose. > One Way trips out of Paris to Switzerland to Austria and see how much those flights are. Then you can see how much they are as a "multi-city" flight too and also add the return flight.
> i look at different combinations. Sometimes there isnt any price difference or not that much to make a separate booking. Im not sure of the trains but you can look at the train cost/duration, but my gut feeling is that it will be long travel times. in general i try to travel in a path and you appear to have done that. Since you live in Wa, im thinking it would be easier to fly into Paris, but i really dont know. YOu may have to look into that or others that live in Seattle may have a better idea on where you can fly into. happy trails.
