How to get to Normandy (D-Day beaches) or Mont St Michel from Cornwall (Port Isaac), UK

In early November. We will not have a car, and because of limited time, would like to go the fastest way.

look at this website Rome2rio.com. It is incredibly useful.

bailey,

I'd use a slightly different method than suggested on Rome2Rio.

If I were making that trip, I'd drop the rental at Bristol airport and use an easyJet flight to Paris / CDG. You'll arrive in France 1H:20 after departing Bristol, and I don't know any "faster way" than that. When you arrive at CDG, take the RER "B" and then RER "E" to Gare St. Lazare, and then connect with a train to Bayeux. An alternative to using the RER from CDG to Gare St. Lazare would be a Taxi, as rush hour should have subsided by 19:00 and it might be quicker.

Unfortunately, easyJet only appears to offer one flight per day, with a departure at 16:10, arriving 18:30, which is a bit late. You could check other airlines, but doubt that any of the others will be as inexpensive. For example, easyJet has flights as low as about £17.99 PP (plus a few fees of course), while Air France appears to be charging £342 PP. You could also look at BMI Regional, however it appears most of their flights depart at 07:20, so probably not a good option if you're driving from Port Isaac.

Are you planning to tour the beaches on your own, or take one of the excellent local tours?

Thanks for your input. We don't know yet about the D-Day beaches. Are there any tours you can recommend?

bailey,

There are several outstanding tour firms, but I should add that some of them are not cheap. Have a look at these websites......

There are many others. If you do a Google search, you'll get lots of possibilities. I've toured with the first two, and can highly recommend them. Keep in mind that the historic sites are spread out across about a 50 mile front and then extend inland, so a guide will be able to get you to the most significant sites quickly. They have incredible knowledge of the history, so will be able to provide facts that aren't in any guidebooks (information obtained from veterans that have toured with them).

It's highly advisable to book these well in advance!
