I have limited experience traveling in Europe. I fly in and out and have rented a car or relied on public transportation. What is the best way to get from Paris to Vienna? We will be traveling at Christmas time.

Agree. Have flown back and fourth between Vienna and Paris several times (Air Berlin, Austrian, Air Nikki) for not a lot of euros. Less than 2 hours. Well worth it. There is also an overnight train (or used to be!). I have not taken it, but my sister has. Vienna at Christmas time is beautiful. The Christmas markets are great. But it will be cold! Happy travels.

"Best" is quite subjective. Flying would certainly be the quickest... But the each of following would each be better..... If you have several months and like to do American style backpacking ....walk. Europe has quite a few long distance hiking trails and no way is better to get to know Europe thru the back door. Slightly faster but still giving a great slow view of Europe would be to go by bicycle. Get a Eurail pass and spend several weeks travel an hour or two by train stopping and spending the remaining 22 or 23 hours exploring the town. Hot air balloon would be a cool way to travel between the two cities. But the BEST way to get from Paris to Vienna would be to head east on a three year RTW tour. :-)
