Pattie,

The easiest method I've found for charging IPod's while travelling is with a Travel Charger. You might have a look at www.logiix.net/itoolkit.asp?pg=products&specific=jnmmloh8 for one example. These are configured for use on 100-240 VAC electrical systems, so all you'll need to use in Europe is an inexpensive Plug Adaptor specific to the countries you'll be visiting.

One point to note is that AFAIK these do not include a USB Cable, so you'll have to pack the one that was supplied with your IPod.

Happy travels!

Look for a 100-240 volt notation on your ipod charger. It should be there somewhere. My charger is white and it really hard to read, but it is on the part that plugs into the wall. Since myy Iphone has it, and I assume an ipod would too. If that range of voltage is there, you can just get the little round prong adaptor and charge the phone safely the same as at home. I used my iphone in UK and France last year with no problem. You can buy the adaptor at any travel store or even at Walmart. Have fun.

As long as the charger you bought has the converter you should be fine. Most small electronics have the converter built in, but if you bought it "after-market" there is no guarantee. Make sure the charger has a converter on it and then you are fine and all you need is the adapter.

If you can get your hands on any computer with a USB port (even the public-use computer at a hotel or hostel), all you need is the standard USB cord that came with your iPod. You're using the computer's internal current, which runs at the same specifications as those in the US, so no converter is necessary. Also, you're only using the computer for power, not downloading or uploading, so you don't have to worry about software compatability. If you check email daily, just plug it in while you type.

Please forgive me for what I'm about to write, but when I saw your headline, this was the first thing that came to mind....

how to charge IPOD's.....ask for their credit cards.

Again, I'm sorry. I resisted for a long time but I just couldn't hold out any longer.

Since you already have a wall charger, all you need is a plug adapter -- that's it.

Pattie,

One additional note on Surge Protectors. It's not a good idea to take Surge Protectors designed for use on North American 115-volt electrical systems and use them on European 220-volt systems. The components in these are not designed to operate on the higher voltage, and may fail very quickly when connected in Europe. If you're adamant about using a Surge Protector, but one in Europe.

Cheers!

Thank You to everyone for your responses. I will be taking my apple wall charger and adapters only.
