Has anyone been on the London and Paris RS tour? I am assuming the amount of walking listed per day is the amount for the entire day and that we are able to sit and take a break throughout the day. Will you be able to break away from the tour if you can't walk and meet up with the group later?
ETBD walking guidelines only cover specific distances during planned tours of local areas, museums, or sights. Typical days include free time after or before such walking events. Further walking distance often begins when the walking tour ends, often not near your hotel, but close to cafe/coffee/desert shopes to take a break. Also guides detail ways for hotel return or can even take you back. So walking distances can depend...on what you chose. I've broken away from local tours for various reasons, after being sure the guide and my tour buddy know those plans. And you can meet up with the group later-but be sure you understand clearly how and when to meet.
Having taken many etbd tours all this seems basic for me, but new tour takers need to ask questions and clearly understand the quide's answers. larry from springfield.
I took the Rome tour myself, but suspect that all city tours are similiar. Don't rely too much on having breaks. We would get going usually about 8:30am and not sit down until 12:30pm or so. That said, I usually didn't feel like I was walking too much. As long as you are reasonably fit and have good shoes, you should be fine.
As the previous poster mentioned, expect to have additional walking during your free time (unless you choose to go back to the hotel and not walk).
You can break away from the tour at any point, except perhaps in a museum or similar, as long as the tour guide and your tour buddy know that you are doing so, so people don't worry when you disappear.
I had one day where I walked a) through the Vatican Museum, b) through St. Peter's, c) back to the hotel, d) back to St. Peter's, e) climbed the dome, f) metro to Termini, g) went to St. Peters in Chains, h) back to the hotel for a 30 min rest, and i) did our night walk across Rome. My feet were TIRED!!
