How much time would I need in Munich airport?

We fly in at 1625. There are trains from the airport terminal to Salzburg at 1823 (arr 2044), 1844 (arr 2100) and 1923 (arr 2142). The earlier, the better so we can deposit our luggage in Salzburg, then catch the NightJet at 2201.

I'm guessing that the last train out of Munich is cutting it too close to make the connection (19 minutes).
But, are the others too early? I'm not familiar with the Munich airport, how long it takes to clear customs, get luggage and get to the train station.

Thanks!

If you don't just arrive on a peek day, one hour is more than enough, without checked luggage even 45 minutes.

Please note: there is no direct train from MUC to Salzburg; you always have to change. I'd personally buy a Bayern ticket (valid on all regional trains after 9am, no restrictions on weekends; €32/2 if bought from a vending machine), then take the S8 to Ostbahnhof (not the S1, which takes much longer) and from there the hourly Meridian train to Salzburg. This is much cheaper and no slower than going to the main station and taking a long-distance train. Look up details at www.bahn.com.

Looking at your other posts, you are arriving on Iceland Air, so you will already have cleared Schengen immigration in Reykjavik. Thus it is only the amount of time to get your luggage. From your proposed train schedules, it seems clear you understand the process of changing trains at Munich Ost. Just buy the Bayern Ticket at the airport and take the first available S-8 to Munich Ost and wait for the connecting Meridian train there.

Still, you are taking a risk that your Iceland Air flight could be delayed. Maybe the inbound flight at Reykjavik is delayed and you miss the connection there. I don't envy you going from an overnight flight to an overnight train.
