How much did you spend on food per day?

Would love to know how to budget this. I don't really plan on doing any five course dinners at an expensive restaurant.

I'll be in Paris, Milan, Rome, and Florence. I plan on buying some protein powder while there, but was wondering if there are a lot of cheap eats places where I can grab chicken or fish. I know Paris has rotisserie chicken everywhere, so that is a plus.

Oh please don't go buying protein powder. You're in Europe...enjoy. I have always been able to find good, reasonably priced food in side street cafe's (as in 4 or 5 blocks off the tourist map). Just get the fixed price menu. Make lunch your large meal and go to a grocery store for yogurt etc. if your budget is tight. We have "bed spread" picinics of ham, cheese, fruit, bread and vino for two people for under $15 and it's good stuff. (Take three small cheap plastic plates, a butter knife, two cheap forks and two spoons.) I also always buy my water in the local grocery "chain" store which there is the size of a 7-11 (avoid the higher priced tiny hole in the wall joints). Fresh fish can be very expensive depending on where you are as the Med is pretty well fished out. Prepared frozen fish on a menu is not so bad.

My God! You are in Europe... Paris... Rome... etc... EAT EAT EAT. Save the protein powder for the US.

There are little places... cheap everywhere. A crepe or pizza for 5 euro. A baguette 1 euro, pastries.. etc.

In Rome go to the "you eat what we feed you" place listed in RS book. It is in Campo di Fiero. 20 Euro for more wonderful food then you can eat!

RD, I guess you didn't clarify that you posted about eating healthy on a different post....

Being said that, Paris, Milan, Rome and Florence have millions of people living there. I think the population there is bigger than your city of Lawrenceville.

You won't find any problems finding lean, healthy food.

Also, don't equate cheap with inexpensive. You can always get cheap food anywhere... even at the Atlanta Airport. You want inexpensive, good quality food!

We were not on a budget, but decided before the trip that we were not going to be eating a lot of expensive meals.

We ate good and I doubt that we spend over $30 average per day on food.

My daughter and I went to Western Europe (8 countries) and Czech Republic in 2005 for eight weeks. Aside from our Eurail Passes and airfare, I know we did not spend over $100.00 per day.

As I said, we were not on a budget...it was by choice.

What we spent on gifts, etc...is another matter. LOL
