How far in advance should I book accomadations to see the Lavender fields in bloom in Provence. What is the best time to go for optimum viewing-late june or early july or?

Full bloom is mid-July on average but it varies by elevation and can vary a little, one way or the other, in any specific year; late June or any time in July is the broader range of time frame. Vaison la Romaine in the Cotes du Rhone is a good place because if you miss the peak by a bit you can go to higher or lower elevations in that area and find the peak, since lavender blooms later the higher you go in elevation.
