How do i go about seeing the top 10 attractions in London in 48hrs

It`s been over 25 years since my wife and myself were in London but this time it is really special because it is her 50th Birthday (September). We are planning to spend a few days in Swindon with relatives before traveling to London (train or bus ?) where we have booked 2 nights accomodation near Gatwick Airport mainly because we are traveling to Barcelona, Spain early the day after. We would really appreciate some ideas on what we should see and the most cost effective way of getting around London and up to Gatwick each day.I know it is only 48hrs but we would like to see a Show,London Eye,Houses of Parliment and cruise the river Thames to name a few of many. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated because the more i surf the internet the more confused i get.

With limited time I would use one of the 24 hr hop on/off tourist buses. They will hit most of the major attention and provides transportation between sights. We generally buy around noon so that it is good till noon the next day.

It wouldn't hurt to chat up your Flight Crew if the opportunity presents itself. They are often a good source of current information.

They often go to the same destination frequently and get to know the area very well. Destinations often become our "home away from home".

Sometimes we've only got 48-72hrs at destination so we become experts on seeing just the highlights.

And don't forget to stop by the local TI (Tourist Information). Smart travellers always start there.
