Very nice photo essay in next week's NY Times Magazine on HOW DO FAMILIES AROUND THE WORLD SPEND THEIR VACATIONS? The opening photo may not, for some, be "safe for work". The essay covers eight countries (ESTONIA, JAPAN, CHINA, UKRAINE, GUINEA, ITALY, IRAN, & COLOMBIA) with several photos per country. My favorite - the portraits in Guinea.
Thank you for sharing. Amazing photos and such contrasts!
I get the Times delivered, so I saw that opening photo right on the magazine cover. Forget about safe for work - I was surprised it was considered "safe for the cover of the New York Times Magazine!"
I’ve been to Guinea. A fascinating place.
Well, I can tell about Ukraine. Yes, it's a very poor country in comparison with, for example, Estonia, Italy and others EU countries. But this one - "...We worked for many years to afford this trip..." not a true. I have a friend living in Kyiv, Ukraine, and he said that the good vacation is not so expensive...
I can recommend Estonia and a few other countries in the wide area of my place of residence (Szczecin, Poland) as Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Denmark as they are less known than Germany, Austria or Sweden, but also valuable to see.
Nice photo essay...the restorative power of water and nature is a common theme no matter what country.
This article reminded me of another I really enjoyed a while ago, focusing on cultural differences surrounding breakfast (in select countries). There are so many wonderful photos here too:
