Houseboat (maybe) in Amsterdam

We are traveling to Amsterdam in Nov, and are on a tight budget, we are thinking of staying on a houseboat, does anyone have any thoughts on this, tips, or lodging in general. Thank you Suzanne

Amsterdam is one of the few cities in Europe where houseboats are even an option, so I would recommend it. We stayed in a houseboat a few years ago, and it was one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. The boat we stayed in, BK18, was on a main canal, two or three blocks east of West Church and the Anne Frank house. It was fun sitting on the side deck in the evening with a glass of wine while tourist boats passed and people were taking our picture. Nothing in Amsterdam is cheap, but houseboats are available in a wide range of prices. I imagine you will find a bigger selection and cheaper prices in November than in the summer. We found ours at www.houseboathotel.nl and that particular one at http://www.houseboathotel.nl/accommodation/boat_bk18_guestroom/. I will send you some pictures by private message.
