Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me decide between two hotels in Sarlat for a group of college students. My husband and I are bringing 18 students to Sarlat in June and we are debating between either Hotel Montaigne or the newly renovated Hotel Les Remparts (on Avenue Gambetta). The only concern we have about Hotel Montaigne is that it seems a little far for students to walk at night if they go out to cafes/ bars. My husband and I have stayed in the center on the main square in the past and I have no real sense of how far Hotel Montaigne is from the main center of the old city. Hotel Les Remparts looks beautiful on their website and appears to be closer to the main medieval center of Sarlat, BUT it may not have the character (or the gracious English-speaking hosts) of Hotel Montaigne. Help please : )
A plug for the Hotel Montaigne, which I have stayed at. Beautifully appointed hotel with large rooms, excellent breakfast, entertaining and friendly hosts, and a great deal financially. I think it's also very well situated on the eastern(?) edge of the medieval city center with a parking area in front. You've been in Sarlat so you know the city center is not that big. The central square was maybe a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It was all very well lit at night ... lots of people around and seemed perfectly safe. Can't speak to Hotel Les Remparts.
Thanks so much for the reply. I keep hearing Hotel Montaigne is great! As I said our main concern is the convenience (and safety) for students to get out and explore this beautiful city on their own.
