Hotels in Montreux and Vevey

I spent last evening researching hotels in Montreux and Vevey - very discouraged as most of the ones in Montreux had almost all bad reviews, especially the ones on the lake, and my husband would like a lake view room. We are traveling by train, and would like to be near the train station. We're trying to keep expenses below $250/night. Comments on the following would be appreciated, as well as other suggestions. Also, should we consider staying in Lausanne? When I read about the steep hills, it makes me think not!

Montreux
Hotel Eden Palace Au Lac

Royal Plaza Montreux

Golf Hotel René Capt

Vevey
Hotel de Famille
Le Léman Hôtel
Hotel Restaurant Les Negociants
Hostellerie Bon Rivage

Thanks!

The expensive hotels in that area are the reason we ended up staying in Leysin ( a very cute ski area nearby )at AuBel Air B&B instead -- which we loved! They really spoiled us as we were about the only ones there. No lake view -- but great mountain view! There is a train that goes to Leysin, but I don't know too much about it as we had a car.

I visited Montreux in 2004 and we stayed at a B&B in Glion since were looing for a reasonably priced location with more character than a huge hotel in the city. The owners, Knud and Marie-Antoinette Sunier were wonderful the view was breathtaking and the breakfast was excellent also. Their website is www.LaMeridienne.ch. You take the rack railway from the Montreaux train station and they will pick you up at the train station. It is very steep terrain there and that adds to the incredible view!
Well, I just went and looked at their website and they are still there and busy also! Booked up through the end of August, though I would still highly recommend them if you can book something for farther out!

If you will have a car, consider the village of Glion, mentioned above. Some years ago we stayed at The Hotel Victoria, http://www.victoria-glion.ch/. It was a wonderful visit high above the lake. The tripadvisor website will provide you feedback on these places and many more.
