Anyone got any tips on good hotels in the Plaka area of Athens? Or even ones to avoid? We are going there for three days end of May2012.

I love the AVA Hotel. You should also check tripadvisor since it has lots of user reviews, photos and more details.

AVA is a nice hotel... the staff friendly and helpful.. we were a group of 6 with 3 rooms everyone was pleased ...

Ditto the positive comments re: the AVA Hotel. On a nice side street, quiet, clean.............exceptionally kind and helpful hotel staff..........cannot say enough good things about the hotel staff. In a city like Athens, you want to stay somewhere safe with folks you can trust.........AVA Hotel was exactly that for us (and obviously lots of others, based on Trip Advisor reviews).

Our tour stayed at the Grand Britagne in Athens, last August. It was very safe. When we ate on the roof top restaurant, you could watch the Acropolis. It was so pretty at 6:30 AM when the lights were still on. Then at night we could watch all the beautiful lights. It was a lovely hotel. My husband and I would totaly recommend it. It is part of the Starwood Hotel chain here in the U.S. The Grand Britagne is directly across the street from the Plaka area and the town square where the soldiers march. It is a short walk to the Acropolis.
