Hotels and Hostels: Sb Db

I've read thru many of Rick's books and I can't seem to find this anywhere. I want to book a hotel/hostel room for my daughter and I, but I don't know what Sb and Db mean? We could share a bed, but is Db for two or just more roomy than Sb? At a hostel do I book 2 Sb?

Db= Double Bed and Sb = single bed. sort of an international standard short hand!
2SB = 2 single

I thought Db meant Double with Bath. Sometimes it just says D and I thought that meant Bath down the hall. Some say D & Db what would be the difference there? I am new at this too, so I could certainly be wrong...anyone?

As I recall, Rick's books tell you what these mean and I agree that Db is Double with Bath (Ensuite) as opposed to shared bath. And BTW, the bath is almost always a shower.

I watch Rick's videos everyday, I am practically obsessed. In Ricks Travel tips when he is in Gimmelwad he explains about hostels. Many hostels are now coming with family rooms are rooms for couples. Db means double with bath.

I suspect bath means a bathroom with WC and either a bath or a shower. But these are only guidebook terms. On a German website, it will say EZ (Einzelzimmer or a room for one), DZ (Doppelzimmer, for two). Then it will say with (mit) Du (=Dusche, a shower) or Ba(d) (a bath tub).

Different hostel sites, different guidebooks, and different everything else list different things differently.

RS terms do not set (or follow) a universal standard.

To answer the other parts of your question, you would need to book a Db or double/with Bath for the two of you, Single and double refers to the number of people more than the room. If you want or require two beds, best to indicate that in your correspondence rather than assume it will be one bed or two.

Hostels are a bit different, they used to be dormitory type arrangements almost exclusively, now they can be that plus Family rooms for 4 to 6, singles, and doubles. For the hostels, you can either get a Double again, or if you don't mind, just request two beds and you will wind up in the dorm, or a room with a few other women.
