Meeting my daughter in Frankfort. I'm coming from Colorado USA, she's coming from Africa. Need an inexpensive (and safe) place to stay & meet in case either has difficulties getting there. I'm in my 70's and don't want to go too far away from the airport. Thank you for any suggestions. Karen
I can't say that it's inexpensive but Hilton has a Garden Inn in the Frankfurt airport so it doesn't get any more convenient than that. Be sure to factor in the taxi fares or the shuttle fares to an off airport hotel. If you can swing it the ease of staying right in the airport might be worth the extra dollars and the Hilton Garden Inn is quite nice. We stayed there last October before our flight home and it eliminated a lot of stress.
We stayed at the Ibis Hotel right near the Frankfurt Airport in July of this year. Free shuttle back and forth to the airport. Very good restaurant. Booked ahead on their web site and got a very good price. Rooms are small but all we did was sleep there. Nice lobby.
There aren't really any inexpensive hotels at the Frankfurt airport. You have your choice between the Sheraton, and the 2 Hiltons. Any other hotel is going to involve a shuttle or a taxi ride. The Hilton Garden Inn sounds like the best choice in your situation. It is a bit of a walk from the arrival gates though, at least 10-15 min. If you don't mind taking a shuttle, then the Steigenberger Airport is probably your best bet. The shuttles run every 20 min. and are free.
If you go on Booking.com and put in Frankfurt am Main Flughafen, you'll find some hotels like Hotel-Taubengrund and Leonardo Hotel at popular prices. They'll also pick you up or have a shuttle. Some other accommodations in the area are ultra expensive.
Another recommendation for the Hilton Garden Inn. Nice room, well-equipped bathroom, and polite staff. I had been a little worried about possible airport noise, but we didn't hear a thing. If you don't want to eat at the hotel restaurant, there's a very convenient Starbucks and another small restaurant quite close. I do remember it being quite a walk from the hotel to the airport proper, but there was nothing strenuous and you never have to go outside. I'm pretty sure our room was 120 euro a night (Sept. 2012).
