Does any one have experience with any of the hotels near Schiphol? We have an early flight and this seems easier than going into town. We don't need fancy, just quiet, no smoking and not too expensive.

My husband and I stayed at the Novotel Amsterdam Airport Hotel and it worked great. A bus took us to the airport for an early morning flight. The cost is shown at 119 EUR.

You could also try at the Ibis next to Schiphol. They have a shuttle that runs every 20 minutes to the airport. It's very big and sligthly institutional...but chap at around 75 to 99 euro.

Last August my mother, teen daughter, and I had a 7.20 am flight out of Schiphol - and Mom is not an early riser... We decided to stay at the airport in the Sheraton Amsterdam airport, for 150 Euros [the Endless Weekend rate]; more expensive than other hotels but worth it for us because of the ability to walk out of the hotel to check-in in 5 minutes. There was another hotel within the airport, but I can't remember the name. Just 2 things I wish we had done differently: the Rijksmuseum in the airport is within the secured area, so we could not go back after checking in to the hotel. And I'm still mad that we asked for tap water for dinner and instead got pricy bottled water which I did not realize was bottled [the bottle wasn't labeled] and got a second from which we drank only one glass of water! Otherwise the hotel and restaurant were good, and it made our flight out much less stressful.
