Hotel Recommendations

I will be traveling to Europe next year. I am looking for hotel recommendations for Paris, Lucerne, Switzerland and Desenzano, Lake Garda Italy. I am primarily interested in hotels that are clean and in a safe area. It would be a plus if they are within walking distance of good restaurants and shopping. Thank you

This is a big ask. We are not travel agents, but rather volunteers helping one another. I suggest you start with a booking site like Booking.com and come back and ask for opinions on specific properties that appeal to you.

Or get a travel agent.

That is in fact what guidebooks are for. Visit your library.

There are three categories on the Rick Steves Travel Forum home page and "Hotel & Restaurant Reviews" is one of them. So, while guide books are terrific as are other sources, asking for and giving suggestions is one of the focuses of this forum.

It is helpful for you to give a price range, the time of year that you'll be traveling, lengths of stays, and what sorts of restaurants and shopping you're interested in. Many here are very helpful.
I can speak only to Paris. The arrondissements that many like to visit/stay in are the single-digit numbers 1-7. You can enter those into Booking.com as well as other filters and then go directly to those hotel/apartment websites for, generally, better prices and cancelation policies.
I hope you receive many helpful comments and enjoy the planning!

I use multiple sites like Kayak.com, Booking,com and TripAdvisor.com

TripAdvisor has a great feature with maps showing the location of the many lodgings at the location that you indicate. It helps you to pick the most affordable, highly rated and well located places.

All these places are a bit expensive, but consider B&Bs or small hotels if cost is a factor.
We find in Europe that we don't need a four or five star hotel, since we don't spend a lot of time at the lodging.

RS guidebooks are also a good source for recommendations and the libraries usually have them available. I always check multiple sources.

you might find a better response if you posted specific questions about specific locations in the relevant Forums where people with that knowledge may hang out.

The more specific the question the more precise an answer or answers will come back.

I think that some may have balked at such a broad unspecific question over 3 countries in one post.

Folks here love to help but they need something to get their teeth into. We are all just travellers like you, with some experience.

If you posted in the France Forum something like:

Hi, 2 30-somethings looking for an inexpensive hotel in tourist Paris next June, maybe around $250 Cdn a night. My travel partner is tall so we need a big enough bed. We will be in Paris for 3 nights as it is our first time. We want to be able to see the Eiffel Tower and be near nice but not expensive restaurants. We're ok with a tiny room in a nice building, we will want a breakfast.

Then you might get some bites, some probably asking follow up questions, but you have given us something to work with.

You don't really need to include clean or safe because nobody here would send you to places that weren't both.

Then do a question in Switzerland, and one in Italy and see how you get on.

While waiting you can read similar questions and see how other folks solved similar questions... there are lots.

Good luck, and happy travels. Welcome aboard.
