My friend and I are arriving in Paris a day before we meet with our RS tour group and are staying at a different hotel in the same neighborhood as our tour hotel. We would like to visit Versailles on the day we change hotels. Our plan is to check-out early in the am but ask the hotel if they could store our luggage until we return to Paris in the late afternoon. We would then pick up our luggage and check into the tour hotel. Is this a viable plan? Would it be better to leave our luggage at the tour hotel very early in the morning before we leave town? We really don't want to carry our bags to Versailles!
Most hotels will store a bag after you check out or before you check in. So either your hotel or the tour hotel would likely store it for you.
Well since you are flying in from west to east your jet lag if its anything like mine will have you up very early in am first few days and running out of steam eariler in day.. so based on that I would check out of hotel early, dump luggage at new hotel , then go to Versailles. After a long day at Versailles it will be nice to just go to new hotel and not have to backtrack and drag luggage to new hotel.
If you don't have tickets already for Versailles or a Museum Pass then get to Versailles EARLY, even with a Musuem pass we waited almost 1.5 hours just to get through the security line because we arrived later in am, around 10:30.
What Pat said.
You will certainly be up very early, so take advantage of that. We arrived at Versailles about 30 min before it opened, enjoyed poking around a bit and then had minimal line to get in. We did have to wait in line for the security check (airport style), but it was maybe 10-15 min. that early in the morning.
Thanks everyone! We are now convinced to move our luggage early in the morning.
We had a similar situation when we took a RS tour in Italy. Tour hotels are used to this and very accommodating.
