We stayed in Hotel La Bourdonnais in the 7th with a view to the Eifel Tower from our window, a super market next door, and a metro stop just a couple of blocks away. Our friends stayed very close to us in the Hotel Kensington - same location - but much much cheaper and just as nice.

Moderately priced is a subjective term. I recently returned from Paris and stayed at the Hotel Nepoleon. One block from the Arc. Read my and other reviews on tripadvisor.com under hotel search. Great hotel. Great location. They also have a web site.

I stay at Hotel Kensington nr Eiffel Tower, clean excellent rates and elevator. Ck it out in Ricks book. However if you require a/c they do not have it.

I doubt that you will need a/c in Paris in late Sept. The hotels in the rue Cler area are close to the Eiffel Tower. The Marais is walking distance from Notre Dame and other places. For this year, you may have to put some effort into finding a room; Sept is a popular month in Paris and the Rick Steves places may all be full. Check out www.venere.com and parishotels.com. Hotel Republique is not central, but often has rooms when other hotels are full. It's only a few minutes by Metro to the Bastille and Marais from there.

We stayed in the Rue Cler area several years back - Grand Hotel Leveque, one of Rick's picks. The whole area was wonderful - I highly recommend.

Has anyone stayed at the BRIGHTON HOTEL, near the Lourve? It has accommodations available for us.

We stayed at the Brighton several years ago. The hotel gets mixed reviews, I would imagine based on expectations. We stayed in a Tulaires view room, with a fabulous view of the gardens, Eifel tower and Louvre. Bathroom was huge, staff was friendly and helpful.

It is across the street from the metro stop, you jump in metro and go down a stop or two to the Louvre and enter from the underground, which misses most of the lines going in from above.

It's not the cheapest place in Paris, but we enjoyed the place and would go back. The location can't be beat, for Right Bank.

Hotel Raspail Montparnasse. Close to the Metro, beautiful view of the Eiffel tower and Sacre Coeur from the fifth floor. It's moderately priced (for Paris in summer). Their website is:

The first page has some animation with a view from the hotel. We stayed there last year; nice staff, great restaurants nearby, Gare Montparnasse in walking distance.

Someone told me about the Paris Zen Center - http://www.maisonzen.com
Squeaky clean mini-apartments (sm. fridge, stove, coffeemaker, fitted-out kitchen, private bath, satellite TV, air conditioner) in a quiet courtyard with a private garden. Friendly staff, speak perfect English, convenient location. You don't have to be Buddhist, only take off your shoes before entering.
In the center of Paris near Place de la Bastille within an easy walk of Notre Dame & Marais. Closest metro stations: Gare de Lyon & Bastille from which to travel easily to any part of Paris.
Prices as of Aug. '06: About $90 a day (one week for two = 490 Euros)
To make reservations: email dates, phone number/fax. After reservations are made they'll require a deposit (50% of total lodging cost - can be personal check). They'll only deposit your check if you cancel less than 1 month or are a no-show.

In 12/2004 we stayed at the Hotel Royal Bergere just steps from the Follies Bergere. It was fine, clean & quiet - we had a room with one big bed and a small bed in a "nook" for our teen son. It was about $100 per night. Good restaurants close by, laundromat across the street.

It was easy to get around Paris from the location in the the area of the Grands Boulevards. 09e Arrondissement. Continental breakfast was included (a bonus, for sure).

From their website: "The Hotel Royal Bergere offers you the comfort of its 29 completely renovated rooms. Rooms are equipped with bath or shower, private WC, hair dryer, direct phone, colour TV, minibar. Its warm welcome and excellent services will charm you."
