I've not in a hostel in Glasgow. But I can say something about the location of the SYHA Hostel which is in the west end near Kelvingrove. I stayed in that area once and enjoyed it. You can take the subway downtown. http://syha.org.uk/hostels-in-scotland/lowlands/glasgow.aspx The Kelvingrove Museum is very interesting. Also, the botanic gardens are there. Also, there is a great section restaurants and music in the west end. There is also this site that seems to offer reviews of hostels. http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/scotland/glasgow/ You want to try to figure out who the guests are in a Hostel. Some of them can be heavy duty party spots. Others a bit more family. If you don't hear on the Helpline, you might also post on TripAdvisor. Pam

In Belfast I have stayed twice at the International Youth Hostel. It is within easy walking distance of the bus station, and about 15mins to walk to the downtown area. It is very clean, the people are friendly, and there is a cafe on site for breakfast. And there is a local bus stop nearby as well.
