Hi I'm completely new at this, I'm 18 and am seriously considering backpacking through Europe in the next few years. I want to hit andalucia this coming summer but i don't know that much about travel. How long is it customary to stay in a hostel? A few days? a week? I have no idea please help me!
Hosteling if a fun and flexible way to stay and I don't know of any limitations. There's good advice on the tips page here (www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/1198hostels.htm) that will give you lots to work with.
Hostels are just like hotels - you can stay one night or several weeks - some hostels do have limitations, usually 14 days or one month, but it varies hostel to hostel. We've stayed one night in hostels up to 10 nights. In the south of Spain you'll probably spend about $20-25/night in a hostel, far cheaper than a hotel!
YOU can read more on hostels.com or hostelworld.com.
I know in nyc there were some restrictions, max 14 days, but I didn't see any restrictions in european hostels.
Be careful with the bedbugs.I got bitten man times on one leg, but i am not sure if it was in NYC or Rome hostel I stayed recently.
