I'm going on a month long trip starting the end of Feb. With it being off season is there any reason to book hostels in advance or could I just wing it?
Hi Anita.
I winged it with hostels in Europe quite a bit just this past summer and I was fine. I sometimes called or booked on line the night before and a couple of times, I just showed up. I always had a bed. You should be fine.
Cheers, Maggie
Thank you for the feedback Maggie. :}
anita, try hostelworld.com my wife and I have used this service on several occasions in Europe and have only been disappointed one time in Madrid spain when our room was not quite what was billed to us. every other time we have been very satisfied.
I usually dont reserve a room in a hostel. In Feb you should have no problem. However, you can reserve for the next day from you your hostel. The manager will help you do it.
To be safe, I have reserved a room for my first night, but I wing it thereafter. Never a problem.
Should not be a problem February or March unless you run into a holiday (like Easter) and it's a big city (e.g., Rome). Then you may want to book ahead in that instance.
I would think you would be fine. I would probably book my first night or two of the trip though. You may want to look at the different cities you are thinking about going to on the hostel booking websites to find a few hostels that have good reviews. My brother wanted to wing it when we went on a trip and I'm glad we didn't because the only hostel in town had horrible reviews so we ended up in a guesthouse - which we could've winged.
you should be fine In February. I only had problems now at the end of October in Rome. The only had the more expensive rooms left, but I went to their sister hostel and found cheaper ones.
