We're staying in a B&B in London end of Feb. 09. Can we take canned soup and citrus candies from our area as gifts?
You can take it in checked luggage (assuming the soup is more than 3 oz.), but it's not really necessary to take a "hostess gift" to a B&B, unless they are personal friends of yours. It is a business that you are paying, they aren't hosting you for free. You wouldn't take a hostess gift to a hotel, right? It's a nice gesture, but it's not expected.
You do not have to bring gifts to a B&B. This is a business, just like a hotel. It would never cross my mind to bring gifts to strangers in a B&B where I was staying. What is the reason?
I am curious , what type of canned soup would be worth bringing as a gift,, I mean what is unique about it??
As for citrus candies, that is a nice idea, but I too would never consider it for the hosts of a B@B,, seems a bit too personal to me( unless of course you know these people).
I have never taken a gift to a B&B and I think it might be considered a slightly unusual/odd thing to do. After all, a lot of B&B owners are businesslike rather than friendly! If I have had a really nice stay I do sometimes send them a thank you card afterwards. I did once send a gift to an exceptional B&B owner, but again I did that after the stay.
I agree for the most part that you don't need to provide a gift. The only time I gave a gift was to the co-owner of a hotel I stayed in who bailed me out. I had a pair of pants split a seem and she dug out her sewing machine and stitched them up for me. I bought her some nice bath salts as a thank you for the extra effort. She wouldn't have taken money.

I would only take a gift to the operators of a B&B if I thought of them as personal friends.
It IS a business and doesn't warrant a gift. Orv if they are performing a favor for you, take a gift.
Thank you for your replys and advise re: B&B Host/Hostess gifts. Re: your interest in "the soup"...see Chalet Suzanne; Lake Wales, Fl. Their Romain soup went to the moon on the first moon landing and is "out of this world!". Here's another for you all...3 days in London... would you suggest a 1 Day or 3 Day Travel Card?...a 3 Day London Pass?...an Oyster card?...a Hop On Hop Off Bus card that is "buy one get one day free...or a combo of the above? We're doing the castles, the tower, Westminster, the eye and the other "high-lights".
