My finance and I have traveled all over Europe and we are hoping to take a romantic trip in late August-early Sept. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions? We have about 12 days and are interested in Greece and Croatia, and have not been to either place.
Thanks!
If I had a choice I would choose to go in September, and go to Greek isles. With only 2 weeks I would choose no more then three islands . ( I did not like Athens and was happy we only stayed two days there) .
I think Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, or Naxos would all be good choices, although there are also many others.
The crowds will just start to thin out a bit in Sept, and it will still be lovely and warm.
I have not been to Croatia so won't offer an opninion on it being a better or worse choice,, I just loved Greece so much though.
Never been to Croatia, but I went to Greece for the first 2 weeks of September a few years back.
We spent a week on the mainland and saw: Athens, Delphi, Olympia, Epidavros and then spent 2 days on each of Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. It was great.
I also recommend Greece in September. My hubby and I took our honeymoon there in 2006. We covered three islands plus Athens in about 10 days. I would recommend two islands in that amount of time. The two we liked the most were Paros and Santorini.
Thanks for all the great tips on Greece! I wish we could go in Sept. but need to be back for school & work.
Athena, despite all the other advice, I would suggest Croatia as a better place for a honeymoon. The Dalmatian coast is beautiful, much less crowded and more affordable than Greece. You and your new husband would have many more opportunities to find a secluded beach and spend time together just the two of you. Greece is wonderful (I'll be back there in three weeks) but for a memorable honeymoon, I'd pick Croatia.
