Honeymoon - 3 weeks in Italy/Portugal

Hello!

My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon (a bit last minute) for the end of August. We'll be flying into Rome on August 23rd and out of Lisbon on September 13th. We'd love to spend our time solely in Italy and Portugal, but are open to a few days in the south of Spain.

After Rome, we are considering a few different options in Italy.
- Puglia for the wild beaches and seafood
- Southern portion of Italy such as Naples, Maratea and on to Sicily
- Tuscany region to visit the beaches, thermal baths and see the rolling hills

I think our big focus would be food, beaches, and a bit of calmness. All three of these areas look amazing, but so hard to decide!

For Portugal, I'm not sure what to pick - as it all looks amazing! Hoping to see Lisbon, Porto and Douro Valley - but also in love with the photos of souther beaches. Can you do it all? Would a night in Seville, Spain be too much?

Would love any advice that you might have on this trip!

You have enough to see in three weeks without adding Seville, which is an outlier, not directly on your way. But if you fly from Italy to Seville, for instance (try www.skyscanner.com), it will later be a 4.5-hour bus ride between Seville and Lagos or a 7-hour bus ride between Seville and Lisbon.

Aww, David. Just 4 nights in Sicily. That is causing me pain.

Seriously, I'd hold off on Sicily till I could spend more time there, but I admit that Taormina's location is very beautiful and romantic. Unfortunately, a heckuva lot of other tourists like it, too. The rest of Sicily isn't so overrun. However, folks who've spent the night in Taormina say it's much less crazy after the day trippers leave.

Thank you, everyone! Lovely suggestions. :) While Taormina does look nice, it's a bit more touristy (and spendy) than we're hoping for.
