Home Visitation Gift Ideas?

I'm traveling to Morocco and anticipate at least two visits to residents in their homes for a meal. I know it is traditional to bring along a small thank you gift representing your home state/area. In the past,I have brought along Pennsylvania maple syrup, but it is heavy and, potentially, disastrously messy. I would appreciate any ideas for an alternative-small and useful.. Thanks.

Residents? It sounds like you don’t know the people who have invited you to their home.

Are you on a tour? Usually the guide provides a monetary gift. I divisible gifts are rarely expected. Alternatively, are there Pennsylvania maple sugar candies? Easier to travel with.

Yes, on a tour (RS doesn't go to Morocco). With this group, it is traditional, both in the tour book and from previous personal experience to bring a small thank you gift. Not required, but almost everyone participates. I may opt for a potholder made in an Amish quilt pattern. Maple sugar candy might work-might end up with crumbs though and it is hard to anticipate how much would be good for a family. These are not acquaintances, but people contracted to provide a "day in the life-home experience".

I was going to suggest something Amish made or grown and I think your quilted potholder sounds functional and beautiful at the same time.

Hi Jeff - It sounds like you may be traveling with OAT and if so, you will love the Morocco tour. For small gifts, I have gifted a dishtowel or tea coaster with an image of Mt Rainier or Seattle on it. Others have brought local teas or candies. Based on the amount of sugar they put in their mint teas, Moroccans seem to enjoy sweet things. Sometimes if I know in advance that the family has small children, I will also bring color pencils or crayons. The quilted potholder sounds like a great idea.
