When I first read this article I figured it was a random idea, but the more I googled, the more I found it's becoming a common event. Naked museum nights, and it's not the art. Anyone? Anyone?
The Flames must be on the road.
I'm with David Sedaris on this one.
I hope they take the benches out of the museum before the event. Or sanitize them after.
Ew.
One of the programs I'm okay not embracing at work.
Can't open the link, but sounds like,
Ewwww! Just Ewwww!
If it isn't what it sounds like, please clarify.
khansen, here's the first 3 sentences of the article, it sums it up.
More than 60 people have attended a special private viewing to allow
naturists to visit a museum.Dorset Museum in Dorchester offered the opportunity to wander through
its galleries naked on Tuesday evening. The ticket price for the event, organised by British Naturism,
included a glass of wine, changing facilities and a locker for
clothes.
What amused me is when I started googling, I learned this happens at other museums as well. In a world of tight budgets, museums are opening their doors to all sorts of revenue generating functions.
It probably wouldn't be a good idea for me to attend an event like that...... someone might call out the harpoon squad. ;-)
Now I’ve seen everything……..at least , I’ll be happy NOT to see “everything”!
Whatever next!?!
There’s a nudist or nature camp up on one of our local mountains here, well-hidden in the forest and not well publicized .
I’m trying to imagine the group on a club day out visiting the Aquarium or our Museum of Anthropology…….
DebVT, good point. Yes, any seating areas would need to be thoroughly sanitized quite frequently.
And as I learned long ago as a young man visiting Germany, no, nude beaches and pools are not what my fantasies thought they would be. More like 180 degrees off, actually.
On the positive side it may be an incentive to drop some pounds and get in shape?
My husband The Doctor says “most people look better with their clothes on”. That photo proves it.
"I hope they take the benches out of the museum before the event. Or sanitize them after."
@DebVT - OMG...Cannot unsee or actually can't un-read.....
You know Im going to think about that in my next museum heavy trip!
Am I the only one who things this is not only amusing, but also maybe a good thing? After all, it sounds like the event was to raise money for the museum. Why not? We all basically know what we look like naked. I don't see any harm in it as long as no one is forced to participate.
I will say that I was a theatrical costumer for over 10 years and got used to seeing people (mostly actors) naked. After the first couple of bodies, you really don't notice it anymore.
Am I the only one who things this is not only amusing, but also maybe
a good thing?
I posted because it amused me, but I agree that somebody was thinking outside the box at the meeting when the question was asked of new ways to generate revenue. And since it's taken off at other museums, others must see it too.
Next stop, nudist RS Tours??
Well there's a lot of information missing from the article.
As far as making money for the museum, I don't read it as a direct fund raising or donor event, but rather a venue rental for a group. Rentals are pricey for the user not necessarily great big money makers for museums. I would be curious about the HR issues on the museum's end and handling staffing for such an event.
It's nice to have a little goofball fun here once in awhile.
Well there's a lot of information missing from the article.
With any luck, that will remain the case.
Mardee, I like you but.......
"We all basically know what we look like naked." – Unfortunately many people don't. Some pasty-faced, cellulite-butted guys truly believe they have the physique of a Muhammad Ali in his prime.
"After the first couple of bodies, you really don't notice it anymore." - Oh, yes you do.
I'd be fine with a roomful of people who look like my missus, Anne Bancroft or Jean Simmons.
