Historic Italy Travel: Abruzzo, Italy

Alberto Diffuso. Located: Abruzzo, Italy.
I stumbled upon a short travel video online. An abandoned 1300’s town is being revived. A hotel purchased some of the buildings and tried to recreate some of the features of living in the Middle Ages. Not for everyone, but still an interesting concept for 2 nights of travel. (I don’t know how well I could take the beds.)

It is an albergo diffuso (I think autocorrect got you) in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. We stayed there in 2013 and loved it. We had a room that was previously a family dwelling of one room down and one up. The staircase would give OSHA nightmares but the beds were modern and comfy, bathroom modern, lighting subdued and romantic. Here’s the website https://www.sextantio.it/santostefano/abruzzo/.

How interesting! For an immersive experience, how many would dress the part, and put away their electronic gadgets for a couple days?

Running water is a really nice modern touch.

Cyn,
Does a stream or creek constitute “running water?” (Joking here.)
Period outfits would require women to dress basically like catholic nuns. 1300’s attire for a woman looks like a “habit” and a gown like covering. Kind of like a burka minus the face covering. (At least, that’s what women were wearing in a St. Francis movie. I asked a nun friend about it and she explained it to me.). I still need toilet paper which I don’t think was invented until the late 1800’s - early 1900’s. (Now, I’m going to have to look that up!)
