Hill town on cover of RS publication?

My wife just purchased a piece of RS luggage, and it came with a small publication entitled "Rick Steves' Europe: Best Destinations." The hill town on the front cover is striking; does anyone recognize it? We plan to visit Italy next summer, and I'd like to see this place if possible.

Thanks, Joel

Hey, I googled Italian Hill Town images, and up came the picture: Civita di Bagnoregio; embedded in a RS page of course. Check this one out if you like hill towns.

Joel,

I searched the same site and the first photo is indeed Civita di Bagnoregio.

If you're planning to visit, it's not far from Orvieto so spending a night or two there would be worthwhile. It's possible to get there via public transit, but it's a good idea to allow the better part of a day for that trip.

Happy travels!

Civita di Bagnoregio is southwest of Orvieto, and just over an hour from the north end of Rome. It's an incredible sight, and well worth seeing.
Orvieto is another very popular hill town, with good B&B's, modern hotels and restaurants. The train ride into Rome Termini is about 75 minutes. It's also a place where many people pickup and drop off Hertz rental cars because the Hertz office is about 100 yards from their train station.

Joel,

Are you planning to visit Civita di Bagnoregio via public transit or a rental car? If you need details on the public transit option, post another note (it's described in the Italy Guidebook).
