Helpful Ipad Apps

I am the new owner of an Ipad and will be bringing it to Europe to reduce my load - will be using it to put my guidebook and other reading materials on it, have some entertainment on the plane, to journal, to listen to my music (so I can now leave my ipod speakers behind as well), to share photos from home with others and myself. Am also thinking of storing my new photos on the Ipad. I would love to hear some helpful tips and apps to consider from those who have traveled with the ipad.

I made my own custom maps in google maps and the used an app called cartographer to access the map on the iPhone or iPad. I used tripit.com for my itinerary and could access it on their iPad app. I also use good reader to view PDF of all important travel documents and also kept a copy of my passport there. I saved interesting articles from the web to evernote and view them on the evernote iPad app. I took too many photos to use the iPad but most people shoot much less than I do, the camera connection kit is kind of slow but works.

My wife and I have traveled very little with her iPad, but I have discovered some things that will make it useful when we go to Italy next week. Mover is the name of an app that lets you trade photos and even contacts with another iPad or iPhone user when you're connected by WiFi. You just add a file to your Mover desktop and flip it to any other Mover device that's showing on your desktop. The iPad detects the type of file and puts it in the right place. (I'm not sure if it works on movies.) I use Travel Tracker on my iPhone to enter all my itinerary info. It's a great organizer took. When it's all entered, you can email all the info to anyone you like, and print it out. Google Translate lets you say a phrase in English and it translates it and says it in Italian, or Spanish or French. However, it works on 3G or WiFi. So I also have Phrasebook, which takes common tourist phrases and translates & speaks them. It's all stored on the device, so a phone or Internet connection is not needed. To get your photos onto your iPad, get the $29 connector kit from the Apple Store. It's two connectors: 1 for a USB connection and 1 to read SD camera cards. Fluent News keeps you up with all the big news stories, aggregated from a variety of Web sites. It's a big time-saver. Google Voice lets you leave your phone on the Airplane mode and forwards an email of your voicemail messages, so you don't have to pour money into some European telecom's coffers. I'm sure others have their own favorites. Hope you enjoy them all.

i travel with my ipad and love it!!
I have xe currency converter, dropbox, zinio (great for magazines), kindle, pages, wi-fi finder, many games, many movies, lots of music, lonely planet travel guides, alarm clock, skype, cbc radio, and netflix apps...some you need wifi connection to use, but most of these you don't. It was a lifesaver to have on my last trip where both legs of travel were almost 40 hours of travel each to my destination. Camera connection kit was great to have as well.

We used subway/metro maps (London, Paris) on our iPod Touch and I assume we'll use them or something similar with our iPad.
