We have 3 weeks, need to start in Amsterdam and End in Amsterdam.
We would like from Amsterdam go to London Paris Barcelona. I am trying to get an idea of where to go 1st ( after Amsterdam) to end up back in Amsterdam for our flight home.
My Idea, however not a clue if it is the most efficient travel would be
Amsterdam to London by Ferry
London to Paris by Eurostar
Paris to Barcelona by train
Barcelona to Amsterdam by ? Fly, train? not sure what would be best use of our time.
We are not trying to go fast paced we are fine with train travel.
Also, not sure of how much time in each place to give us enough time to see enough but not give ourselves some down time as well. Thank you in advance for any advice, tips and hints.
when is the trip?
My apologies,
April 1st to the 22nd
First, I don't think that you will find a ferry from Amsterdam to London. According to the attached map, there is no ferry port in London. There is a ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle but look on the map where Newcastle is located. http://www.12go.co.uk/ferry_port.cfm There are also some ferry runs from Harwich but you'll need to check to see if Amsterdam is a destination port from there. I don't think it is. I do see Hook of Holland (Hoek van Holland). Hoek van Holland is about 1.5hrs by train from Amsterdam.
Second, London to Paris on the Eurostar is just fine. Book as early as possible to get the lowest fares. Also note that you need to be checked in for the Eurostar at least 30 minutes before departure at St. Pancras. Third, for Paris to Barcelona, there is a new 6.0hr fast train that began service last week. You can book it online at http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/
Lastly, it would be best if you could depart from Barcelona to go home. Most all airlines will provide you with a multi-city choice to arrive in one airport and depart from another. However, if you must return to Amsterdam, the best choice is to fly on http://tickets.vueling.com/. Fares for April 22 are as low as 69.99E-79.99Euro. 2.5 hours and you are in Amsterdam.
For the Amsterdam London leg it would be worth studying the Man in Seat 61's very comprehensive study on the subject at http://www.seat61.com/Netherlands.htm
Thanks, I am going to take a look at the train, I like the Stena line, this is what I was thinking about for the Ferry from Ams to Lon. And I like the idea of perhaps flying back to Ams to get back on our final leg.
