Help with Greece Itinerary, Please.

My wife and I are taking a trip to Venice, Florence, Rome, then off to Santorini and ending up in Athens.

Our flight home is out of Athens, so we need that to be the last leg of our trip.

Currently we are booked to stay on Santorini from April 23rd => 26th - and this part of the trip we are very happy with.

But, for Athens, we are currently scheduled to stay from April 26th through the 30th (flight leaves 2PM on the 30th back to the states)

My concern from reading other posts is this is too long to spend in Greece. I can cut the first two nights in Athens (26th, 26th) without incurring any fees, but I have no idea what we would do.

We were thinking maybe Corfu, but then again I heard Santorini is the prettiest island anyway and we would of just come from there. Or maybe visit pompeii for a couple of days?

Any comments are appreciated.

Hi Zack - Since I live on santorini a few months ayear I am prejudiced - It is a Fantastic Island BUT - So are Mykonos and Corfu, Mykonos being very close relatively speaking. So , my thought would be to cut two days in Athens and go with Santorini and Mykonos - You would not be sorry!!

Zack, I don't know which posts stated "too long to spend in Greece", but I have a feeling they were referring to long stays in Athens. Athens deserves two nights and one full day, nothing more. Read up on Rick Steves' Greece book for other mainland sites or follow Greg's advice for other island stays

Thanks everyone - we have decided to do a day trip to Delphi and are currently searching for a good sailing day trip where we can see and perhaps walk around on a few islands. Anyone know of and good vendors who offer a sailing trip out of Athens?

I was faced with the same dilemma. We are flying into Athens on Aug 4 at 2:00 PM and flying home on Aug 9. We decided to go to Hydra for 2 nights, and get back to Athens late in the afternoon. Take the historic walk that afternoon, do Acropolis and Angora the next day. Visit the museum the following along with any markets and home the next. Seems do-able to me.
