Help with currency RPH and KY6

Hi: Visting Kiev and Minsk in May. I want to buy tickets to the opera in each city. However, when I go to buy tickets I get strange prices. In Kiev, the price is RPH and in Minsk it is KY6. Never seen these before. Does anyone know what these are for me to do an US exchange rate? Thanks for any info!!

Greg, Every currency in the world has a 3 letter abbreviation, used by bankers, airlines and others who need to work in multiple currencies. It is made up of the UN 2-letter abbreviation of the country followed by (usually) the initial letter of the currency. Thus you have CAD, USD, AUD, GBP, EUR, CHF, PLZ etc. (I leave it to you to guess what each of these are).
UAH = Ukrainian hryvnia (Ukrainian language: гривня)
BYN = Belarusian new ruble (Belarussian: Беларускі рубель)

You are not seeing RPH and KY6, but the Cyrillic letters гри and руб

Conversion is easy. For example, for UAH 50. Go to Google and type: UAH 50 = USD
that works for any currency conversion, as long as you know the 3-letter abbreviations.

Thanks,
Reason why I questioned it is because the prices are unbelievable!!! Very good seats at both for only a few dollars!!!! Kept doing conversion and still came up with ridiculous low prices!! I knew Ukraine had UAH and Belarus had BYR but forgot this was Americanized letters. Thanks for your responses.

To avoid hassles, call you credit card to tell them you will be making these purchases. This is a good idea with any foreign website, but is especially important with the countries less used by US travelers and more associated with fraud.

Glad you're going to Minsk. We went to the Minsk Bolshoi and saw a choral concert and a ballet. We were shocked how cheap the tickets were. We went to the box office a few days before the concert and paid cash. We were also pleased that peple don't get all dressed up for the theater. We did not feel underdressed in our jeans and nice tops. It's true, many US banks won't let you take money out of Belarus ATMs, but we used a German bank ATMs with no dificulty.
