We will be in England for a time and then in Switzerland.
What are some places in between where we might get a village feel for a few areas? Right now we are totally open to ideas.
Some thought we have are: 3 nights in Strasborg and 3 nights in Colmar or Eguisheim.
Can you help us frame this with the rest of your itinerary? Flying into and out of where? Where are you visiting in England and where in Switzerland? 6 nights in the Alsace, as you've suggested, would be nice and coming from London you can get there in a day. Do you plan to have a car for the countryside? (Not needed in Strasbourg nor Switzerland.)
Just 6 weeks ago, I was going the opposite direction: Switzerland (big Zurich/small Flaach), then on to England, west of London. I only had 3 days in between, but spent them in Strasbourg. Really enjoyed it, and look forward to returning in the future!
I guess since Paris is not a village, you wouldn't be interested in it!
Strasbourg is not a village, but it is a medium sized city with lots to see. Three nights there would be good.
The Black Forest and Friberg, Triberg and Titisee would be an option.
We will be flying into London, spending two weeks either on the Best of England tour, or doing a similar tour ourselves.
Then, we will take the train, I guess to Paris and then continuing on the same day, to Strasborg or Colmar (we are thinking).
We would like to consider other ideas, though.
Then we will do the Best of Switzerland tour, and end in Bern, and have a couple of days extra to see more of Bern or see some other area not too far from Zurich, where we will fly home from.
So ideas the Alsace area or in Switzerland would be much appreciated.
Wow! Sounds like a great trip! The Alsace will fulfill your desire to see villages. We stayed in Colmar for 6 nights last spring without a car. On a do-over, we would rent a car and stay in Ribeauville for the entire time. When your time is complete, take the train via Basel to get to your Swiss tour start.
