We are planning a trip to Europe this May/June for about 3 weeks. The focal point of our trip will be renting a villa in Italy for a week, hopefully in the Montepulciano area. We plan to fly into Milan. I would like to spend a little time in Switzerland(used to work there) and possibly Austria, and we would like to do Rome and Florence, as well. 3 weeks will go very quickly, especially with 7 days in a villa, and we don't want to spend all our our time traveling and come home exhasted. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Well, if you are flying into Milan, than I guess that you can start there, stay a day, then head up to Switzerland for maybe 4 days. Catch the train to Salzburg, spend two days, then head to the villa for 7. Leave the villa and end in Rome, flying out from there.
Flying open jaws will make the most of your time. If not able to do that, there is a high speed train from Rome to Milan now that will get you there pretty fast, but may still require you to spend the night before you head home.
Rome has so much to see, and some pretty easy side trips too.
