Help! Got a reservation for Italy trip but credit card wasn't charged properly

Hi there,

I booked two roundtrip tickets to Italy on Condor Airlines in early March for a trip in June. My credit card was only charged $100 instead of the full amount, which should've been around $3000. I reported this mistake twice to both my credit card and the airline. Both told me it was all fine and I shouldn't have a problem. As much as I would like to go to Italy for only $100, I am afraid something will happen and they will cancel my reservation because they will think I haven't paid. Has anyone ever had an experience like this? Am I worrying over nothing? Just don't want to arrive at the airport with my bags and be told I can't get on the plane.
Thanks in advance!

Did you ask the airline when exactly they plan to charge you the remaining balance?

I did ask the airline lady that very question but she said as far as they could tell it said "Paid" on their computer. She asked her supervisor, who said the same thing and told me not to worry about it...not sure where to go from here

Sorry about the obvious question. I'm afraid I don't know what else to tell you - I've never heard of anything like that before.

No worries! Thanks for trying to help! I haven't ever heard of anything like this either...I was hoping maybe someone else had been through something similar and knew what to do in this situation. Otherwise, I am just going to hope the charge shows up sometime soon before we leave :o)

Very weird. Be sure you document your attempts to correct this with as much detail as you can. This discussion could be a part of the documentation.

Did you receive an email with your booking confirmation number and payment confirmation? That would also form part of the discussion later should you need it.

Yes, I did receive a booking confirmation and email. That's why it was so weird. It would be one thing if the reservation just didn't go through but it appears it did and they are expecting us for the flight...

This might be one of those oops moments for the airline's computer. I've seen this kind of thing reported on flyertalk.com several times. There is a computer hiccup and people book until the airline gets it fixed. The closest we've come to this was just 3-4 years ago tracking summer fares from LAX to MUC. They had been about $1500 for weeks. One night we saw a price of $744 RT. We immediately bought them. The next morning they were double this figure.

I can understand why you are nervous about your reservation, I would be too but with a confirmation number I think you might be OK.

I would print iut emails you exchanged too.

There may have also been a mistake in the credit card number that got put into the computer at the airlines, but once someone gets their bill and the charges were incorrect they will probably realize their mistake... just a guess?

Thanks for responding everyone. It's a mystery to me still because my credit card was charged $100 so I know they got the right credit card number...just not the amount. I will take the suggestion to get this all in writing just in case there is any question later. It is best to protect yourself. Thanks again!

All you can do is be upfront and honest like you have. If the flight has been "paid" from their standpoint, it likely will just go through fine. You have your booking number, etc. so I doubt anyone will ask, but if they do then you'll be ready to pay. Once a mistake happens and the transaction completed- it is probably completed!

Take that money and put it in the bank for your next trip :-)

Does your email confirmation have an actual ticket number on it? I don't mean the 6-digit confirmation code, the e-ticket number is a long one. If you do not have that, it may not have been actually ticketed yet and that would explain why it hasn't been fully charged.

You might try the Flyertalk forum for Condor Air to get a better understanding of this. There are real experts there.

You did book with Condor, not with an agent, right?

Thanks everyone so much for your replies! Much appreciated! Sasha, I do have a ticket number and a booking number. I booked directly on the Condor website. I will check out that forum, it sounds helpful. Thanks again!

Hi Tom_MN! Thanks for the thoughtful response. We are flying two legs of our journey (Portland-Seattle/Las Vegas-Portland) on Alaska. I called them last night and they are expecting us for both flights so I took that as a good sign :o) Thanks for all the great info on Condor, Frankfurt Airport and everything else!
