Help... Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Strasboug in 5 days!!!

Would love to ask your assistance for a quick trip from Dallas to Frankfurt for 5 days in February. Thinking of spending one day/night in Frankfurt, another in Stuttgart (visiting Heidelberg as well that day), another night in Strasbourg or another recommended place in Alsace and returning back to Frankfurt.

Can you tell me the best way of travel... ie. car rental or train? Places to stay? Things to see? And, most of all, best places to eat authentic regional cuisine.

A lot to ask from a newbie here, but I certainly appreciate the suggestions.

Heidelberg has great printing presses???? uh yeah, big tourist attraction there.

How about the beautiful castle that overlooks the town, the university, the scenery, the church, the architecture, the river?

As to Frankfurt, there is a lot to see here, but if you tell me your interests, I can make better recommendations. Medieval churches, art, architecture, museums, galleries, historic buildings, Jewish history, and so on.

What are your dates in Feb. Fasching stuff will be going on around the 14th and 15th.

Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Heidelberg, and Strasbourg are all very accessible by train. You can get schedules from the German Rail website. Stuttgart and Heidelberg are in Baden-Württemberg, and Strasbourg is right across the river. A €28 Baden-Württemberg-Ticket allows you unlimited rides on regional trains in Baden-Württemberg all day long, after 9 AM workdays.

In addition, Colmar is accessible from Strasbourg by train, and there are buses to some (if not all) of the wine towns around Colmar. I would bet that there are even wine tours from Colmar. I'd check those options out before I would assume a car, and it's considerable expenses, is needed.

I haven't been to Heidelberg in over 20 years, but I went there to see the famous castle. The old town at the base of the castle was interesting. From the town, there is a funicular, which also stops at the castle, that goes to the top of the mountain overlooking Heidelberg for a great view.

Heidelberg--castle, university, nice town to walk around. (Printing presses is the reason we suggest you use more than one guidebook to get your information. Or ask the exxperienced people here as well.)

In Frankfurt, check out Frankfurt on Foot. Excellent website for visitors to Frankfurt as well as information on their highly recommended walking tour.
