Help for best train to travel from Paris to Munich

Help! I need to travel from Paris to Munich in a few weeks and have been checking train fares. What company would you recommend for price and efficiency? I realize I can book a flight, but I thought a train would be interesting and offer a scenic route.

" What company would you recommend for price and efficiency?"

Certainly NOT RailEurope. Order from one of the national rail lines, German or French Rail.

There is a night train between Paris and Munich, but the day trains are faster and you get to see the scenery.

The is only one company. The French train system. The price is the same and the tracks are the same. Not like the airlines where you have a variety of different companies flying the same route. Now you can buy tickets through different travel agency but only one train.

There is one direct French TGV, but for most departure times you will need to make a connection in either Stuttgart or Mannheim. Depending upon your departure time, your first leg may be on a French Rail TGV or a German Rail ICE. Or you may be on a German Rail ICE for both legs.

You've waited too long to get the cheapest advance discount fare, but if you book the whole route NOW on the German Rail site, you still shouldn't have to pay full fare. The German Rail site also is the best site for detailed timetables for most of Europe, not just Germany.

You'll pay more if you book on the French Rail site because the second leg will be completely outside of France.

We just did Munich-Paris a few days ago, and had a lot of fun compared to flying. DBahn likes to give pretty tight connecting times (under 10 minutes) on many routes. They're doable if you have your baggage ready to go when the train stops, walk briskly to the next train, and don't even think of going into the station to use the WC. And a hundred other people are making the same connection in Stuttgart on such a common route so following the crowd can work well.

We booked through DB, and had no issues other than having to use google translate a bit to figure out of the German on the train ticket. Note that you must show the ticket checker the credit card you booked the route with along with your ticket- it's their fraud prevention process.
