Recent College Grad Needs Help Picking a Trip

Hello There! I'm a first-time traveler and recent college grad. My school partners with a 3rd party company that offers trips. I'm stuck between two choices, both trips are similar, except one goes to Amsterdam and Germany. In your opinion which trip would you go on? Have you ever been to Germany/Amsterdam? Is it worth the extra money (2k difference in the trips)?

Here is a picture of both trips itinerary :

Thank you for your wisdom and time!

Are the two itineraries the same amount of time? If so, then the one that does not go to Amsterdam and Germany seems to be a little more leisurely tour. If the one that does go to Amsterdam and Germany is a longer tour (# of days), then I would say yes it would be worth the add'l 2k. Both would be wonderful and a good introduction to Europe for a newbie. Having been to all of the places on both itineraries, my personal preference would be to take the one that goes to Amsterdam and Germany if I could afford it.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your help. The trip that includes Germany, will be a 24 day travel while the one without Germany is an 18 day trip.

24 Day Trip is $4,450.00 and the 18 day trip is $3,820.00

Then I would definitely say, if you have the time and the $$, do the longer one. Some people might suggest a shorter trip for a first timer but I don't have any problem going for several weeks at a time, however that's just me. 24 days is long time to be away if you're new to traveling. You know yourself best so only you can decide if the extra time is worth it.

I agree! Do the longer one.
If you haven't been to Europe before then consider this your overview trip. When you go back and can spend more time you'll know where you want to return to explore more and will have ideas for other place to visit as well.
Have a great time!

ford,

If it was me i would go where it interested me. If not, i would consider it a waste of my time & $$ since it could be directed to someplace "I" would want to go.

as far as being to Germany and Amsterdam, i have been to both. Not everywhere in each country either.

If its not your $$$ you're spending, then id go for the longest.

happy trails.

Either itinerary would be a trip of a lifetime. And if you're taking the trip with other college students/or recent graduates, it'd be even better. I too say hit Germany.

I'm just glad you're a young bunch. Those style of formal tours are very efficient ways to travel and see so many places. But remember you'll be moving fast and hitting the high points. And such trips are pretty tiring.

And certain cities are great for young adult bohemians, like Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Prague, Budapest, Rome and a few others. Just have a great time on your trip.

There's a math error or typo somewhere. The difference in the prices you list is on $630, but you started by saying the difference is 2K.

$630 is just over $100/day, well worth it.

$2K for 6 days is well over $300/day. That's steep. After being with a group for 18 days, you will probably have the travel skills to continue on your own. for $2,000 you could see a lot more of Europe after the tour on your own.

Chani, perhaps it's also the price difference in airfare as well?

CBradford, I was wondering which tour company this is, if you don't mind saying?

BTW, I would definitely do the longer one if you can afford it!!

:) Enjoy!!

If it is a choice and I assume since you are asking it is...the longer trip is a no brainer, The broad perspective and life experiences you will have are easily worth a year of college and considerably cheaper.

I would include Berlin as one of the cities suggested above or Vienna, depending on which place you decide to drop.

Ha I wish I could convince my child to do a tour.. she is 18 ,, and not starting college till next September.. so is taking off to Southeast Asia with a friend.. completely on their own for THREE months.. I am freaking out but hands are tied.. ( she has the money and she is 18)
I begged her to consider Europe.. but she told me she can do three months in Asia for 50 dollars a day and in Europe it would be 100 dollars a day minimally..

Of course take the longer tour.. or do it on your own.. you would be able to stretch your money a lot further and stay longer.

"I would include Berlin as one of the cities suggested above or Vienna, depending on which place you decide to drop".

These cities are good suggestions for someone planning an independent itinerary, but not for someone looking at (and asking about) two particular tours, neither of which stop in either of them.

Gretchen, you're right. The difference includes airfare and spending costs. The company hosting it is alumniworldtravel.com

I took out a loan for the trip and seems like a great investment! Thank you all for your time and happy travels!! ~Cameron Roll Tide!

If I had the time, which you seem to have, I would take the longer trip hands down.
The incremental marginal cost is only $630, which works at $105 extra per day. That is way cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Also the longer trip covers some of the most beautiful European locations that I wouldn't want to miss given a chance. Florence, Venice, Heidelberg, Salzburg, the Alps...those are top must go places in my book.
And what do you get in exchange for saving 6 days? Nice and $600? The hell with Nice and with the $600! You live only once. Go with the longer trip, the overall price is good too.
