We will be spending 4 weeks in Italy and now need to decide where we should fly to for our last 2 weeks. We will be flying home with award tickets so have options for our departure city. The options we are considering are Greece, Turkey or Sicily. We have visited Sicily before, so are considering a new place. We know it will be cool, but hoping for at least pleasant days. We prefer a week in a larger city and a telaxing week near a smaller city. Would love your suggestions.
Before I even got to reading the locations you were considering, my first thoughts were Greece. Have a week in Athens, and a more relaxing week in Napflio. Or fly into Athens, go straight to Napflio, and finish in Athens before flying home.
I agree with Cyn, go to Nafplio first then Athens.
Thanks! Can you recommend a place to stay in Nafphlion? My husbsnd wants to relax and just explore the community.
We stayed at Pension Marianna, which is Rick Steves’ top recommendation, and where he himself stays. It’s high up in town, with an accompanying view. If you prefer to be lower, there are lots of places closer to the water.
I can tell you where NOT to stay in Naphlio--the Amphitryon Hotel.
Some rooms are okay, some rooms are horrible. Management doesn't care as they get lots of tour groups.
Cyn, is it difficult to get from the hill down to the lower part of town? I need s flat surface not steps. A road is fine, but hope to road up is not too long.
Also, to get from Athens do you recommend renting a car or taking a bus?
