Hi all,
Has anyone out there taken a teen on an Overseas Adventure Travel tour? They allow children over 15 to accompany an adult. I've been on an OAT trip myself, and it was great. Now I would like to take my two teens on their trip to Italy. They are smart, curious kids who are comfortable spending time with adults. I think they would love the trip and activities, and I think the small group size would be more comfortable for them then a big tour. However, when I went to book the trip, the company said I had to list my kids as separate travelers with separate reservation numbers and separate logins for separate trip planners. It just seemed to ring a bell with me that the company isn't used to dealing with minors. Has any one got any experience to share?
I haven't any advice on the OAT issue, but RS does offer a specific family-oriented tour that includes Italy.

And FWIW the OAT site says kids as young as 13 can go on their tours.
While we specialize in vacations for travelers over 50, you can bring
children aged 13 and older on O.A.T. trips. Please note, however, that
many of our adventures include lengthy transfers that may not be
enjoyable for younger travelers. Select countries may include
additional document requirements for minors
.
That seems really odd. Especially considering we (husband and I, no teens) have booked OAT trips, with my husband doing the booking through his account, and I have NEVER been able to access anything via my own OAT account. And I am a grown-up lol. I never get my own reservation number, or emails, or anything. Husband has to forward everything to me (eyeroll). I've emailed several times asking why I cannot access the trip info and itinerary for trips I am booked on, and the answer has always been to log in to my husband's account (eyerollx2). So why they would want teens - minor teens - to have their own booking is weird. I'd call them again, and ask how that makes any sense.
We have travelled with OAT several times, and the tours are great. Home office...not so much. And although their demographic is 55+, we have been on quite a few that had younger adults, youngest in their 20s - great time had by all.
