Has anyone had this happen?

I purchased the RS neck wallet, along with the money belt and lambskin wallet. The money belt and sm wallet worked fine; however the strap pulled loose from the neck wallet after only two days use. I didn't have much in it either so weight wasn't an issue and I didn't pull on it or snag it.

When I looked at it closely, the end of the strap was frayed but the stitching on the wallet itself was intact (no broken threads or tears). From what I can tell, it looks like the strap was not sewn in properly.

I was going to see about returning it for a replacement; however decided to repair the damage myself, since it now has sentimental value to me.

If anything, this is a heads up to check the straps carefully for proper workmanship.

All comments on this sight indicate that RS is really great about fixing problem items. Usually I believe they just replace them with a new item which you probably prefer not to do at this point. Well, at least this trip will stick out in your memory. Hope it was a great one otherwise!

You should check workmanship regardless of where you buy anything. RS may sell great stuff but they sell a LOT of it and SOME is bound to be defective in some way. Let's face it, the Chinese can't turn out quality everytime!!

I have no doubt that the wallet would be replaced if I sent it back; however, I took this one on a memorable trip and inspite of the strap pulling loose, the wallet worked good for what I wanted it for. I used it for my flight boarding pass and id and kept a small amount of money in it as well. I just slipped the whole thing into another purse that I was carrying.

The trip was great.

Hello Sue. You have my sympathy, for the defective neck wallet. I think that kind of damage is very rare, for that item. I own a Rick Steves' Silk Neck Wallet, and it is durable. Rick Steves' silk neck wallet is the best neck wallet that I have seen. I bought an other neck wallet from the REI catalog: it is black (it can be seen through my shirt) and is made of a rough material that can irritate a person's skin. And some silk neck wallets have only one snap on only one flap : small items can fall out. Some other neck wallets are too small, or too big.

I totally agree with you Ron. I love my RS products. I know using all three: the neck wallet, money belt, and the lambskin may seem like overkill;however, I used each one for a different function and loved using them.

The money belt was so comfortable that once I forgot I had it on and had stepped into the shower before realizing. Luckily, I caught it right away and simply took the contents out and put into my luggage safe and hung the belt up to dry which it did very quickly overnight.

The neck wallet itself is in great shape so that is the reason I chose to just repair the strap. If the walllet had been torn or the threads broken, it would have been different.

I just posted this to see if it had happened to anyone else.

Where are the RS products made, USA or abroad...as in China or India?

Sue, what a funny story about the shower! RS should use you in an advertisement. I've been exhausted in the shower before but not that tired :)
