Has anyone done Rick's Prague City Tour?

I am thinking of doing Ricks Prague City Tour and would like to hear the pros and cons of the tour. Also what do they consider strenuous? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I didn't do Ricks Prague City Tour, but I did do a free walking tour that was excellent. I think it is called Free Walking Tours. If you do a websearch you can find it. The guides ask for tips at the end of the walk if you liked the tour. The tour I was on was excellent. I tipped the guide 200Kc [$10 USD]. The tour lasted about 3.5 hours. The pace was slow, but we did walk to the castle from Old Town Square, so it covered a few miles.

Melanie

Have you looked at the Tour Member Feedback section. If you click on 2008 Tours, it is on the right hand side. People are honest with their answers and usually address walking issues. I am doing my 3rd RS tour this summer and though there are days with a lot of walking, I never felt I couldn't keep up and I wouldn't consider myself in great shape. Hope this helps.

Melanie: I didn't do the 7 day Prague tour but I did just return from the Berlin, Prague and Vienna tour. Prague is BEAUTIFUL!! It's an easy walking city but the trams do run regularly and there's even an underground (which I didn't take). I would argue the tours with the local guides were the most strenuous on our bodies b/c we would stand in the same spot for long periods of time and our backs would hurt. It's uphill to Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral but our group took the tram. The walk to the monastery from the castle complex continues uphill but it isn't very steep or far away. The hotel we stayed at was very centrally located, with a tram stop right outside. Another bonus is the currency exchange rate. We were thrilled with how much further the USD dollar went in Prague than in Berlin or Vienna and Prague. You can get a full dinner $7.00 (or less, even). Hope this helps!

Thanks Kim

It thought about that tour too but don't think I will have the $$ for it. I amnot a huge fan of guided tours as Ihave found. I usually wander around with my big honkin camera or sit on the groud while the group stands. My how cheap is Prague compaired to the rest of europe even with our dollar sinking drastically.

I went on the Prague city tour last year and LOVED it! I highly recommend it! Guide was fantastic! I went a couple of days early and stayed a couple of days afterwards! Prague is a beautiful city! So much to do! There is so much to see surrounding Prague and my guide helped arrange things post tour also! There is some free time too! Make sure you read you guide book before you go, see what you are doing on the tour and decide what you want to see on your free time. Make sure you take in some of the evening symphonies......enjoy!
I can't wait to return!

I went on the Prague City tour the last week of May 2006. The tour is excellent and I highly recommend it. There is a lot to see and do. The beer is excellent! And I don't drink beer in the states. The city is beautiful along with the churches. Wear very comfortable walking shoes because all the streets are cobble stones, more than Florence! The people all speak English. The bridge is amazing as is the city streets and buildings! Very European, German influence. Jewish section is interesting. We stayed with the tour at the House of the Big Boot, one of the best places I ever stayed, small house, cozy, excellent breakfast and the couple that own it are so very nice. I cannot tell you enough. Go! Very diffent than England, France, Italy. Communinist museuem is interesting and the Petrin Tower is a small version of the Effiel tower and great views of the city from the top. Bring layers of clothes if you go in the Fall and Spring and an umbrella!

Have a great time.

Honestly, Prague is small and everything is walking distance, you can totally tour everything by yourself. We went there in feb of 2006, and had pre-booked tours from expedia which we didnt like at all.
We ended up walking the city ourselves are had a blast. We bought some tours from our hotel which were cheap and it was a deal where you buy 2 tours and get the third free. The tours were exciting first one was a pub crawl which was awesome! Second one was just old tales of Pragues.
We stayed at a hotel call KK Felix ...honestly the most freindly ppl we met in Prague were at this hotel. This staff was friendly and helpful. The locals were not freindly and extremely rude.
But its a gorgeous city with the BEST BEER. :)

My wife and I just went to Prague armed with a RS Prague book and we definitely did NOT need to hire a tour guide for anything. It's easy to see the city, transportation is great - don't bother with a group tour...just do it yourself.

You do not need a structured organized tour. Why have someone determine when, where and with whom you will be traveling with. I went for six nights lodging w breakfast w RT air for less than 600 pp off season. Prague is a wonderful place to visit. Purchase a few guide books. Determine the sights you want to see. Each guide will give you a different perspective on the same sights. Search different web companies for the best deals.

I understand about not doing a tour (and I honestly don't like guided group tours of individual sites unless its something special) but I specifically asked about info for one and have recieved some great feed back thanks guys. Now all I have to do is decide on going to Egypt or Prague. Both will cost about the same.

If I were traveling with some friends or my family I wouldn't do a group tour but since I'm solo thats a whole other ball game.
