Happy New Years!

Here is to an inspiring, fun year of travel to all of you on the forum, including Rick, our ever faithful webmaster Andrew, Kate, and the rest of the staff.

The fireworks all over Frankfurt (and every place else in Germany) are exciting, and I am sure they will go on for another 45 min. or so. Surreal out there now with all the gunpowder in the air.

It's cold and frozen snow on the ground here in Denver, but it should be a clear New Year's Eve night.

Happy New Year and safe travels for everyone!

It's a sunny 54 degrees here, but it's supposed to get down to 27 tonight. Pretty cold for this neck of the woods.

Happy New Year to one and all! Ms. Jo, it was great to spend some time with you in Frankfurt in 2014. I hope you can make it here sometime in 2015!

Official HAPPY NEW YEARS from Houston TX CST (Central Standard Time). 46o & cloudy
Tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Here is the English-translated version of the Auld Lang Syne lyrics (Scottish to follow):
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind ? Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne ?

CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne. And surely you'll buy your pint cup ! and surely I'll buy mine ! And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

CHORUS We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine ; But we've wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne.

CHORUS We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine† ; But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne.

CHORUS And there's a hand my trusty friend ! And give us a hand o' thine ! And we'll take a right good-will draught, for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

Here is the original Scottish version of the Auld Lang Syne lyrics:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind ? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne ?

CHORUS: For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp ! and surely I'll be mine ! And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

CHORUS We twa hae run about the braes, and pu'd the gowans fine ; But we've wander'd mony a weary foot, sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS We twa hae paidl'd i' the burn, frae morning sun till dine ; But seas between us braid hae roar'd sin auld lang syne.

CHORUS And there's a hand, my trusty fiere ! and gie's a hand o' thine ! And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught, for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

Happy New Year to all.

I've just returned from a quick run up to London to hear Westminster Abbey ring in the New Year (13 hours late) with a band of guest bell ringers. You could hear it all over Parliament Square and Westminster Bridge and half way to Victoria.

The only thing that drowned it out was the BIGGEST bass drum I have ever seen, pushed and pulled by the University of Texas Longhorn Marching Band who were such a welcome sight in the London New Years Day Parade.

Very overcast and windy but way above normal temperature for the day - about 13 or 14 degrees celsius.

Happy New Year to all on the forums. Drop dead gorgeous day here in Seattle...but cold. Nice crackling fire in the fireplace last night while snoozing on the couch. Looking forward to a wonderful year in 2015. Spain and Portugal here I come... :)

I'd like to share a favorite poem:

Happy New year to all!

May you always have enough...

  • enough happiness to keep you sweet

  • enough trials to keep you strong

  • enough sorrow to keep you human

  • enough hope to keep you happy

  • enough failure to keep you humble

  • enough success to keep you eager

  • enough friends to give you comfort

  • enough wealth to meet your needs

  • enough enthusiasm to look forward

  • enough faith to banish depression

  • enough determination to make each day better than yesterday.

  • enough love to pass around.

Happy New Year to all from NYC. It is not quite as cold here and there were over a million people in Times Square according to one news report so the sheer body heat must have raised the temp! I was cosily tucked up with friends 5 or so blocks away. I hope that it is a better year for all and that we all get to fulfill our travel dreams.

Ms. Jo, you get real fireworks there? We had about 20 minutes of gunfire. We stayed inside while idiots shot into the air.

Happy New Year!
