Handicap access

My daughter won a free cruise to the meddeturanian. We love history, art and museums.
However, we are both disabled and need mobility scooters to get around. How much of Rome will we be able to see? What is the availability situation?

You won't find the same handicap accessibility in most of Europe (and especially in some Mediterranean ports) that you do in the US. And it is unlikely that you will find many HA excursions offered by the cruise line. Cobblestone streets, uneven pavement, stairs, and a lack of elevators at historic sites are complicating factors.

If you aren't bringing your own scooters, you will want to rent them in advance of your cruise. There are companies that do this especially for cruises. The scooters will be in your cabin when you embark, and will be picked up when you disembark. Check your cruiseline's special needs department for details.

As for sightseeing in ports, have a look at the Sage Travel website. They deal with accessible tourism.
