Hi Travellers,
I have heard that while you can carry an appropriate size piece of luggage and a habdbag or briefcase on a flight into London, when you fly out only 1 item is allowed? Has anyone else experienced this? I need to know for a meeting tonight! Thanks, Your travelling band teacher, Sara
I would suggest calling BA directly and inquiring with them. Their allowances are as you mentioned, but they may be different for a codeshare flight. Heathrow allows more than one bag and instructs passengers to check with their airline regarding allowances. BA is your best source for information on this.
Sara is inquiring as to whether or not there are different allowance rules for inbound versus outbound flights on BA. She seems to be already familiar with BA's allowances, as she mentions them in her post. It’s one plus a smaller hand bag. Referencing the information on their website, one might reasonably conclude there are no differences. To be sure, call. I wouldn’t rely on an answer provided here. The airline is your best source.
Thanks all. I would love to call British Airways, but yesterday I hung up after bering on hold for more than 40 minutes! Overload due to the volcano, I'm sure. So have any of you experienced different allowances on BA (only) flying in and out of London?
BA's carry-on rules are the same flying in and out of London except for regional codeshare flights on smaller jets.
Heathrow used to limit passengers to one piece but that was rescinded awhile back.
We have tickets on BA for June so I've been watching the carry-on rules on their website. As Frank II points out, the "one bag only" rule for flights going TO the US has been rescinded. It used to be right there on the website, under "special rules for flights going to the US". Now it's gone.
I'm glad to know this, as we were plannning on carrying 1 + 1 bags on the flight over, and checking the larger bag on the return. Now I see we won't have to.
Sara, I traveled on a BA flight on April 5th from London to Boston. It was sure my impression that only one piece of luggage was allowed coming back to the US (unless you were a Silver Executive Club member), as was the case at Christmas-time on the same flight. In addition to the usual security, and the one bag rule for incoming to the US, everyone's carryon was hand searched and everyone was patted down as well. And they were using the body scan randomly. My travel partner and I had the pleasure of being chosen for the scan, it was interesting, no big deal.
I brought a carry on and a shopping bag sized tote on my BA flights, both ways. No one batted an eye.
i concur with tami, I just used BA this month flyign to and from the states and saw plenty of women carrying on one piece of luggage a handbag then one normal sized shopping bag and no one said anything. so many people buy stuff to at the airport once through security they cant do anything. just putthe bag with the suitcase in the overhead compartment and you should be ok
