Hair Dryers in German Hotels

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the hotels mentioned in RS guide book have hairdryers? Do most hotels in German have them. Trying to avoid taking mine.

Thanks

Yes, there will be hair dryers. Sometimes you may not find one in your room, then just go to the reception and ask for one.

Personally, I prefer to use my own travel hair dryer. I've had some that worked in hotels and some that did not put out enough air, so I take my own.

You may also find that in-room hair dryers, when available, are the wall-mounted variety with hose attached. Not sure of their power, but they look similar to a small vacuum cleaner on the wall. Something else to consider is buying one when you arrive…they’re cheap, will handle European electrical voltage, and will have the correct two-prong plug for the wall outlet.

Hi Wendy
I just came from Germany. I stayed in different hotels, some of them have regular hair dryers and some of them have a vac air system. It will dry your hair but not even near a regular hair dryer. I took a very small traveling one and I was glad I did. I also took a very tiny flat iron.

25 years ago I purchased a blow dryer and curling iron in Germany, so that on future trips I wouldn't have to worry about using adapters. Each time I go to Germany I notice more and more hotels are all equipped with hand-held dryers that are no different from our hotels here in the US. I don't think I've taken my German dryer now for at least 5 years. Bed and Breakfast Inns and Pensions may be different; more family-run and not as up-to-date on the hotel gadgets we all love.

I'm now staying in my seventh place in Germany & Austria this trip and only one has had a hair dryer. That was in a Privat Haus where there were only a handful of rooms, with a WC on each floor and one shower for all the rooms. The hair dryer was in the common shower room. On the other hand, I've averaged less than €28 per night, single accommodations.

Hotels with some number of stars (three, maybe) must provide hair dryers, not necessarily in the room, but one must be available.

Another option is to buy a cheap one in Germany. A friend of mine bought a compact one for really cheap.
