there's Rick's Amsterdam, Bruges, etc book. For more in depth coverage, the Michelin Green Guide to Netherlands gives more in depth historical background. Or Lonely Planet. Browse them and pick the one you like.

of course you will want ricks book - but as a number two - look at Lonley Planet or Rough Guide (which ever is newer since they seem to do 2 year printing). Check out Amazon for reviews of both and publish dates - or go to your book store and browse - you may like one format better then the other! but i tend to go on whichever is newer!

If you're there for three months, you will also want to get guidebooks for France, Germany and the other low countries. A three or four hour drive or train ride will get you to a lot of good places for a weekend trip.

I never buy a guidebook without examining as many as I can before deciding.

Take a couple of hours and go to your local library and browse through as many as you can. Or visit a large book store and look at the guides in the travel dept.

Every book has its advantages. Only you can decide which are important to you. No one can do it for you.
